Iranian Hostage Crisis
Art
For the art portion of my project I recreated the iconic Nighthawks painting by Edward Hopper. I used photoshop to edit out the people in the original and replaced them with historical figures during the time of the Iranian Hostage Crisis. I then printed out the project onto a canvas and painted over it. The original painted captured the city life and atmosphere with how so many people can be close together yet feel so isolated from one another. The scene I recreated is meant to take a classic American painting and change it to be more the perspective of someone during the Iranian Hostage Crisis. Inside the bar are Jimmy Carter and the Ayatollah, with one of the hostages behind the bar. Outside looking in is the Shah, who was ousted during the revolution, and the crowd of protesters/revolutionaries.
